The moment that started it

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Almost fifteen years ago I was a first home buyer having a “what happens now?” moment, after something completely out of my control went wrong. A broker got me through it. I’ve never forgotten what that felt like from the client’s side of the desk.

Not by design, I then found myself inside one of Australia’s major banks, and stayed more than twelve years — writing loans, then managing a lending team. I saw the machine from the inside. And I watched too many good people get knocked back, passed around, or given exactly one option, because that’s all a single bank can ever offer.

That’s why JL Mortgage Services exists: so anyone — simple situation or complex — gets the options and the service they deserve.

Today I specialise in solution-based lending for every kind of borrower: first home buyers finding their feet, families upgrading, investors building portfolios, and especially self-employed clients with income structures that make banks nervous.

The complex ones are honestly my favourite.

The golf bit

______________________________________________________________________________

As the tagline suggests, I love golf. When I’m not helping clients, you’ll find me on a course somewhere — chasing a handicap that doesn’t want to be chased, playing with the same group of mates I’ve had for years, and occasionally letting a round talk me into a business idea.

Golf taught me most of what I know about lending, as it happens: preparation beats talent, course management saves more shots than power, and the right advice at the right moment changes everything. If you’re a golfer, we’ll get along famously. If you’re not, you’ll never hear about it again — promise.

Every golfer has their stage. Every borrower does too.
